I've recently been working on getting more creative with my social media marketing—designing stories from scratch using my own templates, editing little videos of my yoga flow or my morning protein shake recipe, etc.—and I've been getting asked what apps I use. So, I figured I'd do a thorough share of which apps and what I use them for.
If you're like me, you're constantly on the go. Heading from home to vacation to meetings to yoga to appointments to the gym to your parents' to the beach to the hiking trail to the local winery for someone's birthday.
And because we're all business-building QUEEEENS, we somehow balance work amidst all of it. AKA: we're always working and multi-tasking.
Here are my current go-to mobile apps for creating media on the go. I'm able to edit photos and videos, create flyers for my team events with text and stickers, automate my text messages, and more! Let me know what your faves are too!
Editing ImageS + Video
A Color Story
A Color Story focuses on fresh photos and video, on-trend editing styles, and colors that pop. Instead of filtering your photos to look all the same, A Color Story has 400+ filters which aim to enhance the color you’ve chosen in your composition. Bright whites, rich color, and clean adjustments. The app also includes 100+ effects, like light leaks, color fogs, grain, and blend modes; 20+ fine-tuning tools; and Instagram grid preview/planning. Plus, you can save your own filters and adjustments for batch editing media.
I use CutStory for breaking up my videos into 60 second or 15 second increments to post on my Insta story. Just import a video (of any length), choose a layout, stencil or mask, add a stickers, text or music, and let CutStory cut it up and save in your smartphone's Camera Roll as fragment clips.
Filmm is a new effects and filter app with 100+ options, which allows users to add authentic film textures, light effects, and VHS distortions to any video clip—perfect for stories. While Instagram Effects are amazing and fun, Filmm is another option for videos of any length and allows you to be a little more creative and unique with content creation.
Most of us have already been using Lightroom for years now. It's the best image editing app out there (in my opinion). Import purchased presets or create your own for a consistent look and style to your feed. My favorite adjustment features of this app are exposure, shadows, grain, texture, and selective color for making my yellows luminous, my oranges and reds brown, and my greens bluer hued and less saturated. The sky is the limit with Lightroom!
Simple yet powerful, Splice makes it easy to create fully customized, professional-looking videos you’re your phone. Imagine the performance of a desktop editor, optimized for your mobile device. Just tap to trim clips, adjust transitions, add slow motion effects, add music or titles, and more to create beautiful videos you’ll love to share. Anytime you see me post an IGTV, time-lapse, product unboxing, tutorial, trimmed clip, or pretty much anything with background music, I've used Splice to make it all happen.
Creating Flyers, Collages, + Stories
OK, I'm obsessed with Ash's aesthetic of feminine elegance and simplicity. With this app, you can choose a premade template, combine photos and videos, customize the colors and fonts (which are all so stunning and beautiful), add stickers page tears, and other cute elements. People will (for sure!) message you about how you created such pretty designs.
Elevate your stories curation with minimal and trendy templates designed with the content creator in mind. Use Made to customize templates, background colors or patters, unique fonts, photo filters, and use the story board feature to seamlessly build out your new story series.
Unleash your creativity with PicCollage. This is such a fun app which offers a ton of creative options: thousands of stickers, templates, backgrounds, fonts, doodles, and cut-outs.
Unfold is the toolkit for storytellers. Create, edit and share beautiful stories with templates, text, fonts and filters. Create stories by choosing from 200+ stunning templates. Use the advanced text tools with new fonts and get creative with background colors, textures, stickers and more. I especially love the film frames and ripped paper collections.
Word Swag is my go-to for creating event flyers and visual announcements and reminders to post or text to my team. It comes with a variety of beautiful and fun font options, which can be automated for line layouts, along with in-app images with the option to use from your Camera Roll. You can magically turn your words into beautiful photo text designs.
Automating Text, Conversations, + Messages
Fonts is a keyboard with a variety of unique fonts and emojis. Simply download the app, install the keyboard, and type with your favorite font styles and emojis. Your texts, messages, captions, profiles, posts will be sure to stand out!
Space is an app that helps you easily add line breaks and paragraphs to your captions for Instagram. It takes the guesswork out while writing the perfect post caption. Add paragraphs, count characters (with max. for Instagram posts), hashtags, and make your posts more accurate in a couple of clicks!
Voxer makes texting easy with walkie-talkie style voice messaging alongside text, photos, videos, gifs, and all the normal functions of a text message. This is my go-to daily communication app with my team, allowing all features between all users disregarding iPhone or Android compatibility. I am a huge believer in the power of voice messaging. It's much less time consuming, and a lot more personal to hear someone's voice directly without having to hop on a phone call or official video conference.
Hate typing the same thing over and over, one key at a time? WordBoard has been such a game changer for my business in sales and networking! I frequently get asked the same questions, and with this app I can personalize and pre-program a personal custom keyboard for my phrases and responses. You can control what the keys input and save time typing. Insert snippets, templates, phrases and more with a single tap. I have saved messages for different responses in my day-to-day business networking, team-building and training, standard procedures, and product info.
